Makeup Forever HD Powder VS Elf HD Powder

Makeup Forever VS Elf!!

I have heard a ton of which people are liking better than the other so I decided to try it out myself!

"What it is:
A universal translucent finishing powder to be applied over foundation or worn alone.

What it does:
Sets the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. This 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections. Completely evens out the complexion for a glowing, radiant look. One universal shade for all skin tones.

What else you need to know:
It's completely translucent and goes on any skintone. Its talc-free formula does not dry the skin and is formulated with 100% silica. Dermatologically tested."

This is a tough one, High end vs very affordable

ekk sorry for the smudges on the containers!

Let's start off with the price:
MUFE is around $25.00 (Sephora's site says $30 right now! But I swear I paid $25ish)
Elf-$6.00
Right there is a massive price range, and can be too expensive for most people. I splurged to purchase the MUFE powder.
Packaging:
MUFE-Small compact jar
Elf-Big gronky container ;)
I do like how small the MUFE is, I feel it's so easy to just throw in your makeup bag without taking up much room.
The Elf package isn't like crazy insane big but it is fairly big. I actually had to clean out my makeup drawer a bit to accommodate this.

You can see the big size difference, much easier to get product from Elf than it is from the MUFE .
But but the large opening on the Elf I do tend to spill it more then I do with the MUFE.

Elf comes with a nice little powder puff, its really soft! Their are a ton of holes in the plastic where a lot of product can come out. It is a lot easier to use a makeup brush with the larger top.

I do like Makeup Forever's design slightly better, less holes = less using too much product! I usually put a little bit in the cap and use my Elf flat top powder brush to apply.

Makeup Forever High Definition Powder
You can see it kind of fills in the lines on my hand in the second picture once it is rubbed in.

Elf High Definition Powder

It does look like the Elf is slightly finer then the Makeup Forever...But I also think it kind of looks like baby powder like...
This is the hard part, I am still kind of stuck on the fence.

They both have a nice silky finish that helps hide the imperfections. I don't notice much difference between the two to be honest. If I had to pick one I would say Makeup Forever.
BUT
I would recommend both! That's right, both. If you have the money I say splurge on the MUFE.  If you can't justify the money on the high end powder, for sure try the Elf!! I have heard only one person who didn't actually like the Elf HD Powder out of at least 20, those are pretty good odds.
I also am happy I do have both since it will last me forever and I can use the Elf for an everyday use and Makeup Forever when I might be going out or something.

What do you think of one?The other?Or both?

  5. I completely agree with you. I use the Makeup Forever on my clients and they all love it, I use ELF for myself on a more regular basis. I don't notice any difference in the finish.Even MUF leaves a white cast, and actually more so than ELF but I love them both hehe

  8. @osxg33kgirl-Yay I hope you like it! You can't really go wrong with the prices Elf has, but I suppose shipping is more expensive over there =/

@Charlotteelizabeth-I think it's great, even if you have the money I do think it is worth trying out, I hope you enjoy it =)

@LucyyLou-It is slightly nicer for sure, but fairly comparable which is pretty good on Elf's part!

@Themisstwist-Maybe one day! But hey, you won't be too sad if you try the Elf one =) And wicked idea! I think I will tape off some of the hole so I don't waste as much product, you can do everything can't you!

@Mrsmakeup-I am glad I listened to you and purchased it! I am not disappointed and it was so fricken hard to do this post because they are both great!

@Miranda- Lol if you do try either or both let me know what you think =D

@Vintagemakeup- It's worth trying for sure, I feel like a broken record saying that lol but if you can catch it on a sale you can't go wrong!

  9. This is a great comparison review Taygan. From your swatch I can see the MUFE HD powder is much better than the ELF one. Your skin with the MUFE swatch looks really flawless whereas with the ELF one it doesn't seem to settle in as well into the fine lines (not that your hands look old but even babies got some lines on their hands LOL). I also notice the ELF powder seems to have more sheen/reflect in your picture whereas the MUFE products a clean matte finish. I agree that MUFE is definitely a splurge....but it shows from your review that there is a difference.
Oh and you know how your ELF powder has so many tiny holes in the cap which makes more powder come out? What you could do to prevent that is put some tape over half the holes - or, if you repurchase another ELF powder, to poke holes using a pin through the sticker (like don't remove the sticker that covers the holes) but only poke a few random holes through that sticker. If you can't get enough product out then you can poke a few more holes...I find that trick works because it can get a little messy if too much product keeps coming out ;) Great review hun!

  10. Just like you said if I had the money I'd go for the MUFE but since my wallet is empty I'd reach for the elf one for now, it's nice that it's at least good enough to be compared or considered a less expensive alternative.

  11. @Karen-Thanks Karen =) way to go on noticing that...probably would have been good if I mentioned that in my review hey?lol. Very smart idea with the tape on half the holes!! I am going to try to remember to do that this week! =)

@Kysbel-Yeah it really is, and when I win the lotto I will ship you out lots of MUFE =D

  12. I have tried both & I love both of them...I am 45 and have never had a problem with the ELF settling into fine lines (I don't have to many lines) But for you ladies my age I felt I would give my 2 cents : )
