How to keep Unnatural Hair Colors Vibrant

12:01 AM

If anyone has been following me for a while on any social media you will know I am a huge fan of fun coloured hair, it has been quite the process along the way but I found it super fun going from my black box dye hair colour to my current reverse ombre pink to dark pink.
I have a good band about 3/4 down in my hair that is permeant pink so I can only play with the purples, blues and pinks until it grows out but I am still having fun.

I wanted to share a couple tips of mine that I use to keep my colour lasting a little longer in between salon trips since it can be quite costly, especially when you are starting from the worst spot… box black dye!
These are terrible photos but I am not photogenic so here we go…

And

Just some of the colour’s I’ve had :)
First things first, everything always depends on hair type/diet/the dye itself/how much effort you are willing to put into it and of course since everything is a little different for everyone so there might be some differences for others but this what I find is easy and mostly common sense.
As well I use Color Intensity | Joico Semi Permanent as my brand as I absolutely love their color selection, price and that their product is actually made to fade into beautiful colors so when you are getting to the point you need your hair done it’s really only your roots that might not be looking so nice.

AVOID THIS!!!

1- Wash as little as possible!
2- Wash with cold Water
3- No Clarifying Shampoo’s
4- Salon products
5- Use less heat styling
6- Vibrant color + too much sun = faded hair

1. No you will not become the smelly girl with dirty hair that no one wants to be around, but the less you wash the longer your color will last, I usually only use this method for the first couple weeks because I really enjoy my vibrant colors to go to the pastel without having to do anything in between since I heart my Joico products and the beautiful way they fade.
While dry shampoo is still a must in my books, I am able to use baby powder more once the color is lighter and I find it is a little better since alcohol in products isn’t good… I know I know everything has some in it that we or at least I use but it helps to switch it up a little.

2. YIKES! Cold water… honestly when it is -30’C here I am just cringing as I HATE being so cold and the cold water on your head doesn’t feel nice but it works! DO IT!!! :)

3. NO Clarifying shampoos!! Stay clear. While they are very good to use especially if you are one to use a lot of hair products, at least try to limit your use if you feel you NEED this. I honestly maybe use one once a month and that is after my color is more faded so it doesn’t effect too much or strip too much color out.

4. Salon products are needed… I am a HUGE drug store fan as I find so many great products that are my go to’s from there but with a couple things I will use my Salon brands. This can be whatever works best for you. I am currently using Joico’s Color Endure Voilet Sulfate Free Shampoo since it is helping keep my blonde from going brassy and if you do have purple hair and ran out of dye I have tried the little trick of putting this on your dry faded almost blonde hair and it actually does add a little purple back in if you let it sit for 10 minutes, clearly it isn’t ideal but a stylist mentioned it to me once so I gave it a try!
So I say use a salon shampoo you like, if you have reverse ombre like myself or full on bleached hair and need the purple shampoo use the one that works best for you. I switch between this one and Redkin’s Color Extend Shampoo.
This is a HUGE part of having colored hair (did I mention mine is super fine and straight?) I use Olaplaex like it is lipgloss… I am a lipgloss addict btw! I am lucky enough to have a stylist who can help me out with giving me a Olaplex No.2 Treatment while I have bleach on my roots. It IS AMAZING!!! I will do a post on it soon. It isn’t magic but if you use it regularly yo will notice your color lasts longer, softer hair, less breakage and just all around more shine! This product helps rebuild what the bleach has broken to my understanding. Again I will write up a post, it’s so worth using!
If you are unable to afford the No.2 treatment since they are pricy in salons, you can purchase No.3 that you use at home. It is not a hair masque but it will help repair damage. I use it at least once a week and sleep with it in my hair, than shampoo and condition the next day and my gosh is my hair soft!!!  Using Olaplex, my favourite deep conditioner, and a hair masque once in a while ( i also sleep in) has helped so much with the damage to my hair from bleach as well as keeping the color in.

5. We all know heat styling is just bad. So try to use a little as possible even though I LOVE my curled more when it is faded and the colors are just blending together so sometimes I am bad and use my curling wand more often, can’t always be an angel right?  I try to blow dry my hair on cool to low heat. If you are lucky to be able to air dry that is perfect!

6- Summer sunny days, we love them but our hair hates it! I sadly live where the summer doesn’t seem to exist much so this doesn’t apply to me too much but if I am on holiday’s I sometimes come home with some super faded hair which is disappointing sometimes. I don’t know anything. about these products but I googled this and found a little bit of let’s say hair sunscreen here.

I like the different tones and colors, with having the permeant pink in there I only bleach my roots when I get my hair coloured so it’s not crazy damaging as it could be.

This was a fun one, weaved foils of blue with pink purple and blonde :)

What is your favourite way to keep your locks looking colourful?

How to center your Instagram Bio

12:01 AM

I am starting my blogging Instagram account up, slowly but surely so comment below your Instagram name and I will add you make sure to add you!

I have had a few messages lately from others on my Photography Instagram account asking me how I made my bio centered
I think it looks cleaner and it is super easy to do.

Instagram sadly is limited to what you are able to do and with all the updates you never know when it will change. This currently is working for me.

Here is what you do:

I open the notes in my iPhone and write it in there to make sure everything looks right, then copy and paste into my bio.

You will need to copy in between the hashtags  #⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀and you will paste the empty space before each line you want. Remember you only have160 characters so it does go fast.
Once completed in notes (or whatever you use on your phone) copy all the bio in your notes (even the blank space parts) and go to your Instagram app, hit “Edit Profile” then paste it in there. Save and see what it looks like!

I like the look better but it’s completely personal preference, I just thought I would do a quick post since I had quite a few messages lately.
Comment below with your Instagram name and let me know how it looks !!!

How to Stop Procrastinating

12:01 AM

Can you believe I have been putting off this post for a while? Shocking I know.
Procrastination is one of my key qualities, sadly I cannot use it on my resume!

Here are a couple tips I use when I am feeling overwhelmed, too busy, exhausted or lets be real just plain lazy!

I know what I would be thinking if I was reading this post… DON’T YOU EVEN SAY WRITE A TO DO LIST!!!!! I HATE when I am told to write the to do lists, I personally don’t find them overly helpful because they just don’t end. So what I like to call them is my “When I Get To It”.
I know I know it sounds like more procrastination but it works best for me, maybe it’s a little reverse phycology so I don’t feel like I HAVE to than I am more open to doing it, I don’t really know, but I will stick with it.

I start with a small “When I get to it list”… Biggest priority first is best with myself, then add a couple little things that I know I can do and if you want to add more then that’s just an extra bonus. Some of you reading this might think I am nuts, lazy or have ten kids?! I am not trying to have excuses but I have bad insomnia, work 10-11 hour days, attempt to have a life and everything in between so I am just BEAT so 3 things some days feels like a joke and I will not lie I don’t complete them always.

Another that works for a tired soul, is when you come home from work (or where ever your day has taken you) instantly do one thing, just one. Sometimes even daily tasks when you are running on minimal sleep/energy are extremely draining but if you can complete something small before you sit down for a minute you will be thankful you accomplished that.

I try once a week to do something I REALLY dislike doing on a weekday after work even though I am just begged but then it free’s up more weekend time to “When I Get To It” things or FUN!
My least favourite thing to do since money isn’t overflowing in my life is grocery shopping, so I will make a point to grab some items after work before I head home so I don’t have to on weekend.

Another handy tip (using this at the moment!) is to PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY!!! This is huge! I get a lot more done when I am not texting, tweeting or playing on Instagram. Turn up some music if it helps and just get it done!

Don’t commit to too much. I know I am childless so it is a little different but there are so many things to do that just make a person like myself get too overwhelmed and just don’t even do it. So try to keep it simple when possible.

Ask for help, if you have a significant other and are anything like me you never ask for help, DO IT! Just something small, you may be surprised how they are okay with helping you. If you are single you may have a close friend or family member to be able to help. With this said they are also able to help keep you accountable for things if you are really struggling. Don’t feel bad it happens to all of us!

Remembering how crappy I feel when I leave everything until the last moment is a helpful tip for me, I just feel lazy or something when I am leaving the task so it just doesn’t get done or done poorly. Try to remember how much better it feels once you’ve accomplished it.

I have a Fitbit, so I set little alarms for certain things that I know I will forget. So if it is important my wrist will vibrate giving me that little push I need. Seriously helped me not miss a weekly work meeting I was late for twice, ugh that is never good! Set your phone too!

When you are done: ENJOY THE EXTRA TIME FOR YOU!!!!

These maybe common sense tips, but sometime’s hearing them from someone else then just your own thought’s actually helps.

So, if you didn’t want to read all that above, to sum it up:

Biggest/Difficult tasks first
Minimal “When I get to it” List
Do not commit to too many things
Ask for help/be held accountable
Remember your conciseness if you put it off for too long
Set an alarm/Reminder
Turn off any distractions
ENJOY ME TIME!

Oh and remember… ;)

What are your favourite Stop Procrastinating Tips you have??
I would love to hear!!

Monat Shampoo and Conditioner Review

12:00 AM

Ignore the shampoo label, a tiny bit leaked out and wrecked it but that isn’t a necessary point to this post.

Monat is a new found hair love for me! I was lucky enough to receive a few samples of their pretty incredible products. I of course was a little worried as my hair is bleached, over processed, fine and I use semi permeant hair dye so I wasn’t too sure how this would work with the color as I have been pretty loyal to my current salon brand.

With this said I have fine hair so my very helpful consultant let me try the Volume Treatment  along with the Replenish masque for my over processed hair.

REJUVENIQE

“We’ve combed the globe to find the ideal ingredients for MONAT.  REJUVENIQE Oil Intensive is absolutely vital for healthy hair and skin”

I also was lucky to get the Oil Intensive treatment that is not only great for your hair but skin as well! I thought that was pretty cool.  This treatment is done before washing, just apply to dry or damp hair letting it sit in your hair and on scalp for 15 minutes then wash your hair as you regularly would. I could only Imagine using a few of these treatments how great your hair would feel!

There is a lot of crazy good positives with these products, if you are an ingredient junkie, please check out this page!

I found this pretty good to know as well:

The MONAT NOs

You've learned about the ingredients that make MONAT different. What's missing? Absolutely nothing - nothing your hair will miss, that is. Here's a quick list of what you won't - and will never find in any MONAT product. MONAT products do NOT contain:
  • NO Parabens - Could be linked to chronic disorders.
  • NO Sulfates - irritating to skin and scalp.
  • NO DEA/MEA - can be irritating to skin and eyes and could be linked to chronic disorders.
  • NO Phthalates - long-term exposure could be toxic.
  • NO PEG - can be linked to chronic disorders.
  • NO Phenoxyethanol - can be irritating to the eyes and skin.
  • NO Ethanol - can be drying to the hair and cause frizz and damage.
  • NO Petrochemicals - can coat the hair shaft causing moisture loss and suffocation of the shaft.
  • NO Glutens - can cause allergic reactions to sensitive individuals.
  • NO Sodium Chloride - can build up in tissues and cause.
  • NO Harsh Salt Systems - can cause dryness and dehydration.
  • NO Harmful Colors - can be toxic to skin and scalp and linked to chronic disorders.
  • NO Harmful Fragrances - can be irritating and linked to chronic disease.

I try to cut back with what I can but if a product has these kinds of things and I love it I will still use it, with that said though I was pretty happy there was nothing bad that I could find in these products :)
Since I did just have a taste of these products, here are my before and after photos of my hair, you may not tell much difference but I can feel a little transformation! I was shocked too! I have tried soooo many different shampoo’s and conditioner’s in my life (haven’t we all?) but this just made my hair feel healthier even after the first try!

Please excuse the lighting as of course it’s been snowing here and is dark leaving to work and coming home
Ignore my funny poses! It is not easy to photograph the back of your head! LOL
I used the REJUVENIQE on my scalp and ends twice, it smells like lemon which is nice, I feel like this product is really amazing! I think I would dump it all over my head if I had a bottle LOL but it is good for a pre treatment before the other products.

I know I would, and hopefully will be able to purchase some full sized products to really see these benefits as they sound like the REALLY help your hair with a lot of different types of hair issues any of us can have!

I have a little bit left for a 4th possibly 5th use if  I am careful, I will post those photos too and see if you can tell!

PROS:

-Over time of using this your hair strengthens thickens and hydrates your scalp (That’s where it begins!)
-I liked the smell, it isn’t your typical fruity (my favorite kind of scent) smell or anything like that but it just smells good to me. I am terrible at describing scents but it’s kind of earthy or something to me? I might be way off LOL
-My hair felt so soft after and I have soft hair already so that was surprising to me!
-Shinier! I don’t know if this is in my head but it seemed like it to me :)
-Even just having my hair look less frizzy on the over process ends was amazing!
I know I would have more to say about this product if I did have full size products since things take time to fully work, but I REALLY think it is worth a try!

CONS:

-Two cons…. I use semi permanent hair color and I did notice not using my regular shampoo this stripped the color more than my other brand I use, but thankfully I like my hair to fade into pastel colors!
-The last con might be the price as I am not rich sadly LOL. BUT again this product honestly seems to be something, I am a tad shocked in a good way! So I kind of see it in my future :)
